A Bit About Me
DOMINIQUE YON is a Houston-born visual artist and educator whose practice is rooted in curiosity, connection, and the transformative power of community art. Working primarily in oil paint, as well as collage, wood carving, and mixed media, they create intuitive and whimsical visuals inspired by Surrealism and a deep love of Art History. Their work uses symbolic imagery to reflect personal experiences while sparking dialogue on broader societal themes.

As both an artist and middle school art teacher, Dominique sees education as an extension of their studio practice. They are committed to fostering inclusive, creative spaces where individuals of all ages and abilities can discover their voice through art. By merging artistic exploration with teaching, they encourage communities to engage with imagination, history, and self-expression in meaningful ways.

Dominique earned a B.F.A. in Art Education with a concentration in Painting from Stephen F. Austin State University. They have grown their practice through community-centered programs and exhibitions, including Project Row House’s 2024–2025 Creative Cohort in Houston’s historic Third Ward, Bisong Art Gallery, and CC Studio Events. As a current Fellow at Bethany Arts Community in New York, they continue to build bridges between art and education—using creativity as a tool for empowerment, storytelling, and connection.
