A Bit About Me
DOMINIQUE YON is a Houston born visual artist and educator whose practice is rooted in curiosity, introspection, and connection. Working primarily in oil paint—but never limited by medium—they explore materials through collage, wood carving, and mixed media, allowing each process to guide and produce intuitive and often whimsical visuals. Inspired by Surrealism and a love for Art History, their work uses simplified, symbolic imagery to reflect personal experiences and comment on broader societal themes.
Their artwork invites viewers to feel first, think next—gaining insight through a visual language that is both grounded and dreamlike. Whether through explorative studio practice or empowering young artists through education, they strive to create space for wonder, expression, and dialogue.
Dominique earned a B.F.A in Art Education with a concentration in Painting from Stephen F. Austin State University and has continued to grow through community-centered programs and exhibitions.
